EARLY LEARNING • AGES 6 WEEKS to TRANSITIONAL-KINDERGARTEN
Summit Early Learning Center was established in 1976 as a direct ministry of Broken Arrow Assembly in an effort to minister to the needs of families and children in the Broken Arrow community. We strive to complement family values by surrounding the children with a Christian atmosphere of respect and loving appreciation for each person and for the wonders of God’s world. We pray that these young children will become adults who contribute in meaningful ways to the world around them and experience the fullness of God's perfect plan for their lives.
PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
SELC encourages each child to progress at his/her own pace. Our classrooms offer enriched experiences that provide children the opportunity for active exploration. There are many opportunities for open-ended activities that pique children’s natural curiosity and engage them in the learning process. Our center provides an atmosphere that is conducive to developing the whole child, providing a solid foundation for development in the cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual content areas.
BIBLICAL INTEGRATION
Summit Early Learning Center is a faith-based program. We offer daily Bible lessons with age-appropriate activities for all classes. The Bible lessons include songs, activities, and stories to engage children. The 2-year-olds through TK have chapel each week. Our 3s, 4s, and TK also have weekly memory verses that they practice daily. SELC is a ministry of The Assembly at Broken Arrow.
HOURS OF OPERATION
Summit Early Learning Center is open Monday - Friday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.
NUTRITION PROGRAM
Summit Early Learning Center is dedicated to providing a healthy, well-balanced diet. We provide a nutritious mini breakfast, hot lunch, and an afternoon snack.
OPEN DOOR POLICY
Summit Early Learning Center encourages parents to participate in our program in several ways. We enjoy having parents join us for lunch, snacks, or on field trips. Parents are welcome to visit their child/children for school events and class parties.
PROGRAMS FOR NURSERY AND PRESCHOOL
TUITION
NURSERY AND PRESCHOOL (PRE-K)
We provide care and early education opportunities for children ages 6 weeks to 4 years old for our preschool program.
TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN (TK)
Transitional Kindergarten provides a bridge between preschool and kindergarten. This is for students who have just missed the cutoff for kindergarten or need another year before starting kindergarten. Although some students may be academically ready for kindergarten, they may need time to work on impulse control and social skills. Transitional Kindergarten (TK) helps students transition between preschool and kindergarten.
TK allows students time to build a strong foundation, combining social and emotional experience with academic learning. This allows students to learn essential literacy, math, and other cognitive skills and develop social and self-regulation skills needed to succeed in school and life. TK provides families an additional option to ensure their children enter kindergarten with the maturity, confidence, and skills they need to excel.
CURRICULUM
- Nursery and Preschool
We use an integrated curriculum approach which is linked to Oklahoma’s Early Learning Guidelines. Teachers plan themes around the children’s interests and integrate the domains (math, literacy, social, science, and art) into each theme. The use of integrated themes allows children to achieve higher levels of learning. - Transitional Kindergarten
We teach to the kindergarten standards but don’t teach to mastery. The curriculum is modified to provide ample opportunities for students. These modifications may include an adjusted pace and intensity, additional concrete experiences, additional scaffolding, and a concentration on developing oral language and vocabulary skills.
