Exploring, Sketching, Creating: 4th Grade STEAM in Action
Our 4th grade STEAM leaders recently took their learning beyond the classroom with a hands-on STEAM field trip to the Tulsa Botanic Garden.
Throughout the visit, students observed large-scale LEGO® sculptures of animals and natural elements, studying how each design represented real-world concepts such as ecosystems, balance in nature, and creativity in engineering.
With sketchbooks in hand, students carefully analyzed the structures and sketched their own design ideas inspired by what they discovered.
This experience directly connects to our STEAM curriculum, as students will use their observations to plan and build their own projects back in the classroom. They practiced thinking like engineers—asking questions, noticing details, and imagining new possibilities.
In addition to design thinking, students demonstrated strong collaboration and leadership skills. Working together, they discussed ideas, made decisions, and began envisioning how their team builds will come to life. These experiences help strengthen communication, problem-solving, and teamwork—skills that are essential for future innovators.
We are proud of how our students represented SCA and embraced this opportunity to learn, explore, and create.
